Day 5


“The king said to me, “What is it you want?” Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered the king, ‘If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favour in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it.’ Then the king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked me, ‘How long will your journey take, and when will you get back?’ It pleased the king to send me; so I set a time.” Nehemiah 2:4-6

God put it on Nehemiah’s heart to rebuild the city of Jerusalem. Nehemiah recognised that God’s hand was upon him when he found incredible favour with the king. Nehemiah acted on the desires of his heart in full dependence on God. Even as the king asked him what he wanted, Nehemiah turned first to God to ensure that what he was about to do was according to God’s will. By faith, Nehemiah pursued God’s purpose for him as he depended on God, recognised God’s grace upon him, and boldly took hold of the favour he enjoyed with the king. When we depend on God, stand in His grace and boldly take hold of His favour toward us, we can ask God with full expectation that we will receive what we asked of Him. What has God put on your heart? What dreams, visions, desires or ideas has God given you? Have they been buried because of disappointment, discouragement or lack of faith? May God rekindle the desires of your heart “that by his power he may fulfil every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith” (2 Thess 1:11)! Trust in God, His grace and His favour and ask.

„Da sprach der König zu mir: Was erbittest du denn? Da flehte ich zu dem Gott des Himmels; und dann sagte ich zu dem König: Wenn es dem König gefällt und wenn dein Knecht wohlgefällig vor dir ist, so sende mich nach Juda, zu der Stadt, wo meine Väter begraben liegen, damit ich sie wieder aufbaue! Da sprach der König zu mir, während die Königin neben ihm saß: Wie lange wird die Reise dauern, und wann wirst du zurückkommen? Und es gefiel dem König, mich hinzusenden, nachdem ich ihm eine bestimmte Zeit genannt hatte.“ Nehemiah 2,4-6

Gott legte es auf Nehemia's Herz, die Stadt Jerusalem wieder aufzubauen. Nehemia erkannte, dass Gottes Hand auf ihm war, als er eine schier unglaubliche Gunst beim König fand. Nehemia handelte gemäß den Wünschen seines Herzens in voller Abhängigkeit von Gott. Auch als der König ihn fragte, was er wollte, wandte sich Nehemia zuerst an Gott, um sicherzustellen, dass das, was er tun würde, dem Willen Gottes entsprach. Im Glauben verfolgte Nehemia Gottes Absicht für ihn, indem er sich von Gott abhängig machte, Gottes Gnade an ihm erkannte und mutig die Gunst, die er mit dem König genoss, in Anspruch nahm. Wenn wir uns von Gott abhängig machen, in Seiner Gnade stehen und mutig Seine Gunst ergreifen, können wir Gott mit voller Erwartung bitten, dass wir das erhalten, was wir von ihm erbeten haben. Was hat Gott auf dein Herz gelegt? Welche Träume, Visionen, Wünsche oder Ideen hat Gott dir gegeben? Wurden sie wegen Enttäuschung, Entmutigung oder Mangel an Glauben begraben? Möge Gott die Wünsche deines Herzens wieder aufleben lassen, "... dass unser Gott euch würdig mache der Berufung und vollende alles Wohlgefallen am Guten und das Werk des Glaubens in Kraft" (2. Thess 1,11)! Vertraue auf Gott, seine Gnade und seine Gunst und bring deine Bitte vor.

Day 13

“When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews, and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, ‘What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble—burned as they are?’ Tobiah the Ammonite, who was at his side, said, ‘What they are building—even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones!’” Nehemiah 4:1-3   We have seen on day 7 and 10 what the enemy tries to do, to stop God’s work. Day 10

“But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official and Geshem the Arab heard about it, they mocked and ridiculed us. ‘What is this you are doing?’ they asked. ‘Are you rebelling against the king?’ I answered them by saying, ‘The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it.’” Nehemiah 2:19,20 When we pursue our God-given vision, the enemy will seek to dissuade us by sowing doubt, intimidating us, and questioning our motives. In effect the enemy seeks to draw our attention to ourselves so that as we focus on ourselves and our own limitations, we lose focus of the One with whom all things are possible.
