Day 3


"I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s family, have committed against you. We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses. Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.’ They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand." Nehemiah 1:6-10

Nehemiah is concerned about his people and his city, Jerusalem. After inquiring about the state of the nation and the city, he identifies with the problem and takes responsibility, not only for his own sin and the sin of his father’s house but also for the sin of the nation. Reminding God of His promise and that the nation belongs to Him, Nehemiah confesses the sin of the nation and intercedes for them. Nehemiah stands in the gap. What he initiates in the spirit prepares him for the work God has prepared for him. Nehemiah is confident that just as the nation was scattered according to God’s Word, so God will fulfil His promise if His people return to Him! What God did before, in redeeming His people, He will surely do again.
I want to encourage you to inquire, identify, intercede and take initiative as you ask God how your relationship is with Him, how the Church is doing and how your city is doing. God is looking for someone who will stand in the gap. Someone who is prepared to take God at His Word and pray it into being. Will you stand in the gap?

"Lass doch deine Ohren aufmerken und deine Augen offen sein, dass du auf das Gebet deines Knechtes hörst, das ich nun vor dir bete Tag und Nacht für die Kinder Israels, deine Knechte, und mit dem ich die Sünde der Kinder Israels bekenne, die wir an dir begangen haben! Auch ich und das Haus meines Vaters haben gesündigt!
Wir haben sehr verwerflich gegen dich gehandelt, dass wir die Gebote, die Satzungen und Rechtsbestimmungen nicht befolgt haben, die du deinem Knecht Mose geboten hast.
Gedenke doch an das Wort, das du deinem Knecht Mose gegeben hast, indem du sprachst: 'Wenn ihr treulos handelt, so will ich euch unter die Völker zerstreuen;
kehrt ihr aber zu mir um und befolgt meine Gebote und tut sie — selbst wenn einige von euch bis ans Ende der Himmel verstoßen wären, so würde ich sie doch von dort sammeln und sie an den Ort bringen, den ich erwählt habe, damit mein Name dort wohnen soll!'" Nehemiah 1,6-10


Nehemiah ist besorgt über sein Volk und seine Stadt, Jerusalem. Nachdem er nachgefragt hatte wie es der Nation und der Stadt ging, identifiziert er sich mit dem Problem und übernimmt die Verantwortung, nicht nur für seine eigenen Sünden und die seines Vaters, sondern auch für die Sünden der Nation. Nachdem Nehemiah die Sünden bekennt, erinnert er Gott an seine Verheißungen und das die Nation ihm gehört. Er ist in den Riss getreten. Was er im Geist initiiert hat, bereitet ihn vor auf dass was Gott für ihn geplant hat. Nehemiah ist voller Zuversicht, dass genau wie die Nation zerstreut wurde nach Gottes Wort, so wird Gott sein Volk wieder vereinigen wie er es verheißen hat, wenn sie umkehren. Was Gott in der Vergangenheit getan hat als er sein Volk gerettet hatte wird er sicherlich wieder tun.
Ich möchte dich ermutigen nachzufragen, dich mit dem was Gott dir offenbart, zu identifizieren, in den Riss zu treten und die Initiative im Gebet zu ergreifen in Bezug auf deine eigene Beziehung zu Gott, die Gemeinde und deine Stadt. Gott sucht jemand der in den Riss treten wird. Jemand der bereit ist Gott beim Wort zu nehmen und es zu beten bis es verwirklicht wird. Wirst du in den Riss treten?

Day 13

“When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews, and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, ‘What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble—burned as they are?’ Tobiah the Ammonite, who was at his side, said, ‘What they are building—even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones!’” Nehemiah 4:1-3   We have seen on day 7 and 10 what the enemy tries to do, to stop God’s work. Having heard that the Jews were rebuilding the wall and were well underway, Sanballat now mocks the Jews and their work publicly. Day 10

“But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official and Geshem the Arab heard about it, they mocked and ridiculed us. ‘What is this you are doing?’ they asked. ‘Are you rebelling against the king?’ I answered them by saying, ‘The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it.’” Nehemiah 2:19,20 When we pursue our God-given vision, the enemy will seek to dissuade us by sowing doubt, intimidating us, and questioning our motives. In effect the enemy seeks to draw our attention to ourselves so that as we focus on ourselves and our own limitations, we lose focus of the One with whom all things are possible.
